What Heroes Do Best

This is a guide to what heroes do best and how to improve on even that. Obviously, you have to play in a Grepolis world that has Heroes to need this information; otherwise you can just ignore it. At the end of the hero listing I have added a shopping list for defense players, and one for offense players with short explanations why you should get them in that order.

With many thanks to Th3K1nd3 and Aldar0n who collected the data and posted it.

The important things you need to know about all heroes:
- they can't get killed, only wounded (red bar in the overview)
- you can't lose them; if a city gets lost, the hero can be assigned again to another city
- if they have bonuses that apply to them being stationed in a city (as opposed to traveling with troops), then these bonuses stay in place even when they are wounded
- if they have bonuses that apply to them being stationed in a city, then these bonuses apply even while they are traveling with troops
- they can be unassigned immediately, assigning them takes time and is marked with a red bar in the overview
- you can assign a wounded hero
- the levels increase in a strictly linear way on the bonus side, they just get more and more expensive
- when you reach level 20 for a hero, there is no extra bonus coming your way

Andromeda - Wisdom
- Increases resource production by 16.5% (level 1); 1.5% increase per added level.
The starting heroine and a free gift from Grepolis. Ideal for building up any city in the beginning. Her importance drops significantly as the game progresses and you get more cities. Move from your first city to the next as soon as the first one is battle ready.

Use in:
- Cities that have high resource production while still building up and filling out (the higher the level of your production buildings the more you get from Andromeda's % increase).
- Cities that need to be built up quickly but rely on their own resources (meaning you can't or don't want to send resources there from other cities or they are on rocky islands with no farms)

Combine with:
- Hera's Happiness spell
- Island quest spells for increased production of a resource
- Bonus quest spells for increased production of a resource

Atalanta - War
- Increases unit (any unit that is not faster than Atalanta) travel speed by 11% (level 1); 1% increase per added level.
Atalanta speeds up any attack that contains units that are slower than she is; that includes a CS attack. Combined with Cartography and Set Sail Research, the Lighthouse building and the Improved Movement quest reward you will achieve a 76% speed increase (with Atalanta at level 1).

Jason - War
Attacking units can carry 22% (level 1) additional loot when travelling with Jason; 2% increase per added level. Not the most useful of heroes; his limitation to loot makes only sense if you are in a situation where you can't get additional resources in more easily.
